From Crayons to Penguins: The Unforgettable Customer Experience Hack

What do olives, crayons, and Peter the Penguin have to do with great Customer Experience?

I was in Buenos Aires with friends at a restaurant. The Google reviews were pretty clear: amazing food, but crazy long waiting times, especially for bigger groups like ours.

And yes, when we arrived, the staff was clearly overwhelmed. The wait was real.
But… we still had the best time ever.
Why? Because as soon as we sat down, they brought out free starters and a surprise:
A handful of crayons and paper tablecloths.

Our first reaction?
“Aw, that’s cute… but there are no kids at our table.”
But the crayons were for us adults. 🙂
Seconds later, we were deep into doodling, laughing, chatting, and completely in the moment.

The wait was still there. But the frustration was gone and replaced by joy. This restaurant is, for me, a perfect example of how to elevate the customer experience as a company, even if you can’t fix everything right away.

Sometimes, you can’t immediately change the slow kitchen, the backlog, or an outdated process.

But you can offer something small, playful, and unexpected, and completely shift how people feel about the experience.

In my workshops, I help teams uncover exactly these kinds of quick wins.
Using playful methods like LEGO® Serious Play®, we explore creative solutions to real challenges, without months of planning or massive transformation projects.

Curious what a few crayons (or LEGO bricks) could spark in your team?
Let’s talk.
